Qurban For Life (Q4L)

Taken from Kama Bakar's Blog

Qurban is one of the most important rituals in the Muslim calendar. Broadly speaking, the word, which is Arabic, means 'sacrifice'. In precise religious terminology however, qurban means the sacrifice of an animal slaughtered for the sake of Allah (swt).
In the Shari'ah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw), qurban commemorates the unparalleled sacrifice offered by the Prophet Abraham (a.s) when he, in pursuance to God's command conveyed to him in a dream, prepared to slaughter his son Ismail.
In the final moments, Allah (swt) decreed a sheep be slaughtered in Ismael's place. The sacrifice of an animal thus became an obligatory duty to be performed by every Muslim (who fulfils the criteria for this ritual) since.
Qurban is performed annually during the three days of the Eid ul Adha (Hari Raya Haji), specifically on  the 10th, 11th and 12th of the Islamic month of Zulhijjah. The meat is then distributed to the poor and the needy, with a smaller portion reserved for one's family and friends.
In modern times, many Islamic-based charity organisations, of which Muslim Aid Malaysia Humanitarian Foundation (Muslim Aid) is one, offer to facilitate the obligatory duty of Qurban as one of  their services for the ummah.
Muslim Aid is under the ambit of London-based Muslim Aid International and the international network has been organising the Qurban campaign, named Qurban For Life (Q4L) for the past two decades.
Meat is distributed to underprivileged Muslims the world over, from Afghanistan to Somalia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iraq, Pakistan,  Palestine as well as Kashmir and the southern provinces of Thailand where there is a large Muslim population.
In the case of the local chapter, Australian cattle is the norm and slaughter is done in Jakim-accredited abbattoirs in Australia. Muslim Aid officers are usually on hand to witness the ritual to ensure it meets all the necessary Islamic criteria.
The meat is then shipped to Malaysia and thereon to a canning factory in Terengganu, where it is canned according to specific requirements before being distributed locally and worldwide.
The list of receiving countries has since grown longer and this year Myanmar is added to the group, the main beneficiaries being the repressed Rohingyas and Myanmar-Muslims.
On the local front, the meat is distributed to orphanages, homes and shelters for single mothers/abandoned wives, the elderly, the destitute, the disabled and the poor.
Muslim Aid is the only Islamic-based organisation in this country that offers qurban meat in cans. Canning is preferred over fresh and/or frozen meat to avoid wastage. The meat is either canned in brine or as corned beef or even as curry, depending on local needs.
For those who would like to participate in Muslim Aid's Q4L, the cost is only RM380 per head of sheep or per portion of cattle (there are seven portions to a cattle).
The amount is nett of slaughter, shipping and transportation from Australia to Terengganu, processing and canning, and distribution local and worldwide.
Let's spread the joy of Eid ul Adha with the less fortunate through the ibadah of Qurban. For more details, you can peruse the Q4L website here or fanpage here. May Allah swt bless you for your good deeds.

Text Speech For Musabaqah during Ramadhan

Speech for the closing remark of the Musabaqah Hafazan with the Somali community and Fast 2 Feed program organized by Muslim Aid Malaysia Humanitarian Foundation. 10 August 2011.

Assalamualaikum wrb and good evening. Welcome to the Salahuddin al-Ayubi Mosque to you, to all Somali community, and to all the invited guest in the hall, I extend my best wishes on this holy month. Ramadhan Kareem. I want to welcome members of the Salahuddin al-Ayubi Mosque, Haji Bakhtiar, members of Muslim Aid Malaysia Humanitarian Foundation; and Members of the Somali Community Learning Center, including Mr. Fattah, Mr Ahmad and others.

We, from Muslim Aid, we have a tradition of hosting iftars that goes back several years that we called it Fast 2 Feed, or in short F2F. These events, give the opportunity for the people to sponsor our fellow Muslims such as the orphans, the poor family, disabled, single mother and even the refugees to break fast. These remind us of the basic truth that we are all the servant of Allah, and we all draw strength and a sense of purpose from our beliefs.

These events are also an affirmation of who we are as a Malaysian, a symbol of unity. Muslim Aid understood that the best way to honour our fellow Muslim, especially the Somali community in Malaysia is to be with them as part of our own society in Malaysia, helping hand in hand in education and other community development programs.

Our Founder, Yusuf Islam or popularly known as Cat Stevens understood that the best way to honor the place of faith in the lives of our people was to help people who are suffering. Yusuf Islam said that “It is part of my faith as a Muslim to try to help those who are suffering from poverty or economic or political injustice.” And that is where Muslim Aid started in London back in 1984.

Indeed, over the course of Muslim Aid history, humanitarian program has flourished within our borders precisely because every human being, not only the Muslims, but all have the rights to have better education and a proper place to live.

This is not to say that the refugee is without controversy in Malaysia. We all know that currently Malaysia is not a signatory for the UN refugee convention, but through the continuous effort from other organizations such as the UNHCR and Muslim Aid, we strive to help the refugees community have a better place to live, especially in Malaysia. We will try our best to raise funds and come out with quality program in order to make the Somali community part of the Malaysian community itself.

Tonight, we are reminded that Ramadhan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity. And Ramadhan is a reminder that Islam has always been in our heart. The Musabaqah al-Quran which is held today is a step encouragement for youths and others to actively read and understand the Quran and at the same time to become a pious, quality and excellent youth through the wide teachings of Al-Quran such as the rule of prayers and repentance.

The Rasulullah SAW said, "The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur'an will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur'an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have a double reward.''
[ Hadith Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Last but not least, I would like to thank everyone who is involved from the organizer itself, the donors who trust in us, in making the Musabaqah al-Quran event a reality. May Allah give us barakah in our life, insyaAllah. Thank you all for being here, and I wish you a blessed Ramadhan. Wabillahitaufiq, wassalamualaikum wrb.

Eidiladha 2010

Its been a while I've been blogging in this blog. Just after the Eidiladha, then I got this opportunity to update some of my activities during the eid. Since I had just 1 off day, I decided to celebrate the eid with the orphans from ASDAF. I went to Rumah Titian Kaseh (RTK) as well since its just behind my house, well its about 1 km from my house.

I bought a knife, just incase if they need me to help cut the meat at ASDAF. There were so many people at ASDAF and when I was there, they had already slaughtered six cows! It was so quick and we all help each other to cut the meat out and put it into the plastic bag, 1 kg perbag before distributing it out. The ASDAF kitchen made soup from the qurban meat and it was really delicouse! We had as well the gearbox soup and everyone enjoyed it.

On the second Eid, I went to Kampung Pontos, an indegenous village in Raub, Pahang with a few ASDAF children and the management. We started our journey at 4.30am and arrived at the place at 8am. We slaughtered 22 cows and distributed it to the people at the village.

On the way to the village, there was a landslide but luckily we manage to cross over the road. We had to go back early to avoid from raining. We were worried if its gonna rain, the land slide would become worst and it will be impossible to go back to KL.

Qurban For Life is Back!

Dear Brother/Sister

Assalaamu alaikum – Peace be upon you

What will YOU sacrifice, this Eid?
Aaishah (RA) narrates the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:
"There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgement with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart."
[Tirmidhi & Ibn Maajah]

In the first ten days of Dzul-Hijjah, as we increase our prayer and dhikr, and we make arrangements to carry out Qurbani, let us remember our needy brothers and sisters. Is it not our duty to ensure that they are able to celebrate Eid with the rest of the Ummah?

This Eid-ul-Adha, please help us provide respite from months of hunger, to some of the world’s poorest people.

Muslim Aid is carrying out Qurban For Life programs in 47 countries worldwide including Malaysia. As little as RM380 can buy Qurban in a country where the need is greatest. For a detailed list of countries where we perform Qurbani on your behalf, please click http://www.facebook.com/pages/QURBAN-FOR-LIFE/110895842274977;

Muslim Aid FC vs Kachin Refugees Community (KRC)

Last four years was the last time I played football and this time is for Muslim Aid FC. We were involved with the UNHCR League. The format is almost the same as World Cup, but only 16 teams will be playing for the UNHCR Cup. All the teams are from the refugees community and only the Muslim Aid FC consist of local players. The first game against the Kachin Refugees Community (KRC) went well when we scored the first goal on a counter attack. But since we didn't had enough stamina, we went down 1-3 to KRC. The next game will be after raya on the 19th Sept at the same place, Taman Pudu Ulu. All Muslim Aid FC supporters are invited!

oh man, they scored again!

it was a good game....
